Cafe Magenta 11.12.2019
By: Oscar Boldrini
This Week Open Cafe session, which is held every Wednesday at 9pm in Magenta, was a shared event with all partners in Europe and was dedicated to understand diversity and to face racism, problem still present in our societies
We began the event with “the shock”, energizer game in order to break some ice with the newcomers and to step up the energy of the group.
Lot of smiles and fun around there!!
Once the energy was restored in our guests and back in the circle, our facilitator asked them to pick up one of the many visual cards disposed on the floor, that in their opinion could be representative of one of the elements that drives racism or could be significant in terms of diversity.
It has been really emotional to see so many differences and opinions about this topic!
After this introduction, the group was divided in three subgroups, to each of them it was asked to perform a very short theatre representation of a negative situation of racism. Using the Forum theatre, Boal’s approach, it was asked to each group to perform in front of the others, two times: the first run with the complete sketch without interruption, the second with the possibility from one of the “audience” to interrupt and substitute one character and change the end to the scene, from negative to positive.
Final debriefing, to understand feelings and emotion has been done.
A super interesting final thought was focused on the fact that only changing little things you can change a “final”, in the theatre of course, but sometimes also in the real life.
See you next Wednesday for another super Open Cafè with us!!
