The Open Cafe was organised by MEXPERT volunteers and staff.
The Open Cafe opened up discussions and promoted health and wellbeing, integration of refugees and native young people into sports, promoted gender equality and equal opportunities in physically demanding activities. The Open Cafe discussions focussed on how we can also equip young people with creative unique games and sports activities to help overcome injustice as well as stereotypes present in today’s society.
Those from a youth work and social work background shared their experiences of empowering young people through sport;
A lot of participants mentioned that more needs to be done to increase young people’s awareness of the importance of actively participating and increasing a healthy lifestyle.
At one point during the Open Cafe we discussed about gender and sports and how we all can increase the knowledge of gender barriers in sports and segregation towards the participation of young people in certain sports.
